Colorful Games

Try these games to brighten up a gloomy afternoon.

Name That Color Game:
Do you know what the color “Martian Skies” or “Shangrila Silk” looks like? Go to your local paint store and pick up some sample paint strips. (Some of the colors have really funny names.) Cut the strips up into individual paint swatches. Paste the swatches on a piece of paper. Scramble the names of the colors and list them on a separate sheet of paper. Then, ask the players to try and match a name with a color.Another idea: Ask the players to come up with their own names for some paint swatches. Award a prize for the most original.

A Colorful Competition:
Schedule a day for clients and staff to dress colorfully. The goal is to wear as many different colors as possible. For example, a person might wear a pink blouse, green skirt, yellow scarf, white hat, blue socks, purple pin, etc. Patterned fabrics count as several colors. Award prizes for:
  • Most Colorful Character - the person wearing the most colors.
  • Brightest Character - the person wearing the brightest colors.
  • Shady Character - a person wearing the most shades of the same color.
  • Clashy Character - the person with the gaudiest outfit.
  • Rainbow Character - a person wearing all the colors of the rainbow (red, yellow, green, blue and purple).

A Colorful Scavenger Hunt:
Make up a list of colors. Make copies for everyone. Then, ask your clients to find all the colors on items around the building. Have them write the name of the item next to the color. For example, next to the yellow color, the person might write,  “yellow pillow.”Another idea: To make the game more challenging, ask the players to look for a specific item and give a clue. For example, a “red writing tool” or “something blue that you can carry.”

For prizes, award something colorful - such as a bag of colorful jelly beans, a box of colored pens, a mixed floral bouquet, etc.
